Vogue announced Nagnata winner of the prestigious Emerging Fashion Designer Award 2020 by Westpac Private Bank and the Australian Fashion Council.

Laura May speaks exclusively to Vogue Australia during the Covid-19 lockdown on what winning the award means for Nagnata and the future vision for the brand.

The last taste of freedom on the road before the COVID-19 global lockdown. We drove from LA to Santa Clarita and beyond with no particular destination in mind.

'Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.'

- Jack Kerouac

We spent the day exploring the best of Byron Bay with our favourite French girl Joanne Palmaro. Starting with a coffee at home, we made our way to the beautiful Tea Tree lakes for a picnic then onto our favourite dinner spot, Kouzina.

"Eat some delicious and healthy food in good company, crack a fresh coconut + go on a pilgrimage with some amazing women at the Tea Tree Lake."

To celebrate the opening of our Nagnata studio + store in Byron Bay we threw a Block Party! Thank you to our friends and loyal local community who came down for a boogie.

We drank delicious natural wines by Supernatural Cellars, ate copious amounts of Will Studd cheese and our neighbours Loco Love Artisan Chocolate. Jono Ma + Angus kept us dancing all afternoon and into the evening. Then we kicked on for an after party with our friends The Babe Rainbow at The Beach Road Hotel.

Moving between worlds with Flavia, photographed on film for MOVEMENT 005. Flavia wears styles from the organic cotton and merino wool technical knitwear collections.

Movement 005 features the new 'YANA' Knitted Yoga + Travel Bag.

YANA {meaning 'travel' in Sanskrit}  is an innovative knitted bag engineered to shape using Australian Merino Wool and melted yarn blend, developed by Nagnata in collaboration with The Woolmark Company.

Yana is available exclusively at Net A Porter and the Nagnata store.

We hit the road for a girls weekend in Palm Springs for our latest Nagnata Girls series with Erin Shea. In search of a desert oasis at Indian Canyons to the surreal sunset at Joshua Tree National Park, where the temperature dropped quicker than you can say 'cowgirl in a Nagnata twin-set.'

This road trip was one for the NAGNATA family album.

Nane has the kind of New York apartment you dream of. A garden terrace where she grows herbs, tomatoes and greens, leading up to a rooftop that is all her own.

Photographed by Claudia Smith. Nane wears styles from our Organic Cotton and Merino Wool Movement lines.

This week we warmed things up in Melbourne, opening M/FW's first poolside show with 6 NAGNATA looks.

Complete with a lifeguard(!) we walked the athleisure filled runway at the historic Melbourne City Baths alongside Converse, The North Face, Rains, Up There, Incu, Huffer, Rag and Bone, A.P.C + sködiam.

We follow NAGNATA girls Genevieve + Courtney on their Summer road trip along the Californian Coast to Big Sur.

Ripe with misadventure, from stumbling upon a rodeo by the Madonna Inn to the cutest Hidden Kitchen of Cambria and everything in between, Highway 1 continues to prove it is full of magic in all of the liminal spaces.

Faith, Angel + Esme tell us how they feel wearing our NAGNATA merino movement collection in collaboration with The Woolmark Company

NAGNATA founder Laura May met Myra Lewin, the vibrant 65 year old yogi and Ayurvedic teacher, in Byron Bay at the end of her Australian tour.

At the core of Myra's teachings, and the heart of Ayurveda, is the way in which we approach our life can either harm or heal ourselves.  Resistance to life causes suffering and in particular with Myras life – caused disease.

'One thing to look at in reversing or preventing illness is taking away the cause. Keep backing up in the process of life to find the cause, then remove it. The body and mind can often take care of itself.'

Laura May styled Myra in accordance with the colours of the 7 Grahas. The  Grahas are the qualities of the  planets in vedic astrology. Myra coordinates her weekly activities and the colour palette of her outfits in harmony with the planetary influences.

Dani Dollinger grew up in Virginia in a small town called Gainesville.
She has doll like features with a rock 'n roll sensibility. A free roaming sense of spirit. The kind of girl who can keep a small town pace in a fast paced city.  She's a Leo with a silly and sweet personality. Milky skin and a gap toothed smile.
The kind of girl boys write love songs about.
Laura May spoke to Dani about the books and music on her mind. Meet our LA NAGNATA girl.
Meet NAGNATA GIRLS Lilli Johnson and Stav Ben Zur. Photographed on film by filmmaker and photographer Emmanuelle Pickett.

NAGNATA designers and sisters Laura May and Hannah Gibbs share the story behind the brand with Rosie Dalton from Well Made Clothes, Australia's leading platform supporting the sustainable and ethical fashion movement.

'Owning your own brand is a powerful way to make a difference in the world – for better or worse. I worked with fashion brands for 13 years and saw the harm that fashion can cause the environment. I knew there were better ways of doing things. What you stand for as a brand is important, because you’re essentially building a platform from which to use your voice ... '

Across the world, consumers are making more educated purchases: they want more than just a tangible product; they want to know they are supporting positive movements and making conscious decisions. It’s these consumer needs which make brands sit up, listen and hopefully take action.

As a relative newcomer on the market, NAGNATA forms part of a new generation of labels which focusses on its social responsibility and the impact it can make.

NAGNATA founder Laura May spoke with Chris Lorimer from Black Magazine, about purity in the design process, influencing self-esteem and when caring equals business success.
