Nagnata is now a Certified B Corporation™
A milestone in our commitment to designing with greater accountability for people, planet and purpose.
Since day one, Nagnata has been driven by a belief that what we wear matters — to the body, to the earth and to the systems that shape both. From pioneering natural fibre movementwear to exploring more conscious approaches to design and production, we have always sought to create with intention.
Following a multi-year certification journey, we are proud to share that Nagnata is now a Certified B Corporation™ with an overall B Impact Score of 87.8, joining a global community of businesses verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
For us, B Corp is a framework that strengthens our commitment to continual improvement, and a meaningful next step in building a business that creates value beyond product alone.
What you put on your skin matters. How it is created matters too.
WHAT B CORP MEANS
B Corp certification recognises businesses that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance across the whole company not just a single product or initiative.
B stands for ‘benefit for all’ and B Corp businesses are regarded leaders in the global movement to innovate economic and operational systems to have a positive impact on all stakeholders.
Administered by B Lab, the certification assesses how a business operates across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers. It is designed to hold companies accountable not only for what they make, but for how they make decisions, how they treat people, and the long-term impact they create.
For Nagnata, becoming B Corp certified formalises values that have shaped the brand since inception: a commitment to natural fibre innovation, conscious design, responsible business practice and using our platform to contribute positively to people and planet.

FOUNDER NOTE
From the beginning, our vision for NAGNATA has been to explore a new blueprint for fashion. Challenging the conventions of performance wear we wanted to create garments that move with the body while asking more of the systems behind them.
We have always preferred working with natural fibres for their sensory qualities, technical performance and lower-impact potential. We have also believed that design should be approached as a practice of responsibility: one that considers the relationship between what we wear, how it is made, and the wider ecosystems it touches.
Becoming a Certified B Corporation™ is an important milestone in that journey. It reflects years of work across product, operations and business practice, while also giving us a more rigorous framework for where we go next. It asks us to keep learning, keep measuring, and keep improving; not only in how we make, but in how we lead.
We know this work is ongoing. B Corp certification is not a claim of perfection, but a commitment to progress and to building a business that is accountable to the people and places that make it possible.
As NAGNATA grows globally, I want us to keep evolving with intention, challenging what is possible with natural fibres and using our platform to create a positive impact.
— Laura May, Founder

IMPACT PILLARS
Nagnata was founded with a focus on natural fibre movementwear, challenging the dominance of petroleum-based activewear by exploring the technical potential of merino wool, organic cotton, and other considered fibres.
We believe what you put on your skin matters. Our material choices are guided by a desire to maximise natural fibres wherever they can deliver the performance, comfort and longevity we need, while reducing reliance on virgin synthetics wherever possible. Where technical performance requires a blend, we prioritise recycled and, more recently, bio-based materials, while continuing to explore solutions that improve overall material outcomes.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
In FY25–26, 72.5% of NAGNATA's raw materials produced were natural fibres.
Of all cotton used, 91.48% was certified organic, while 80.43% of wool was Responsible Wool Standard certified. Of the synthetic fibres used, 74.17% were Global Recycled Standard certified.
- Prioritising natural, renewable and certified fibres across collections where possible
- Designing performance knitwear that explores the technical capabilities of merino wool and organic cotton
- Continuing to refine our material mix to reduce unnecessary reliance on virgin synthetics
- Working with fibre innovations that support comfort, breathability, durability and lower-impact wearability
- Considering both function and end use when selecting materials for each garment
WHAT WE’RE WORKING TOWARDS
We know material choices are rarely simple. Performance requirements, durability, stretch and supply-chain availability all shape what is possible. Our material research continues into seaweed-based fibres, bio-based synthetics and bio-leathers, alongside a growing focus on garments constructed entirely from natural fibres and plant-based components.
At Nagnata, design is considered not only through the lens of aesthetics and function, but through the systems and resources required to bring a garment to life.
Our signature seamless and engineered knitwear categories allow us to create garments with precision and intention, while our design process considers versatility, longevity and seasonless wear. We aim to create pieces that move across disciplines, spaces and modes of practice — reducing disposability and encouraging a longer life in wardrobe.
Our Return To Earth project extends this thinking into end-of-life design, exploring vegetable dyes, natural fibres and product systems intended to return more thoughtfully to the earth.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
- Designing garments with longevity, versatility and repeat wear in mind
- Using engineered knit techniques across key categories to support more considered garment construction
- Favouring seasonless product design and modular wardrobe building over trend-led obsolescence
- Continuing to review packaging, trims and production choices through a lower-impact lens
- Seeking ways to reduce waste across design development and production processes
WHAT WE’RE WORKING TOWARDS
We are continuing to evaluate where waste occurs across the product lifecycle — from sampling and development through to production and packaging — and where we can make smarter, more circular decisions over time.
Fashion’s impact extends beyond the garment itself. It includes the energy used to produce it, the freight that moves it, the packaging it arrives in and the systems that support the business behind it.
For many years, Nagnata has worked with independent environmental consultants to better understand and measure our operational footprint. This work has included tracking greenhouse gas emissions across our business and supply chain, identifying key areas of impact and taking steps to reduce emissions where we have the greatest ability to influence change.
As part of our earlier Climate Positive commitment, we measured our organisational emissions and supported independently verified carbon offset projects, including community-led initiatives that combined environmental outcomes with social impact. This work helped establish a more detailed understanding of our footprint and informed the next phase of our environmental strategy.
Beginning FY26–27, NAGNATA’s company-operated facilities are powered by GreenPower, including our Byron Bay headquarters and Byron Bay and Sydney retail stores. This marks a shift toward addressing operational emissions at the source while we continue to improve how we measure and reduce impact across the wider business.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
- Measuring and reviewing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and broader value chain
- Working with independent environmental specialists to strengthen the way we measure, understand and respond to our footprint
- Powering NAGNATA-operated facilities with GreenPower from FY26–27
- Reviewing the impact of freight, logistics, packaging and day-to-day business operations
- Considering environmental impact within broader business decision-making and using independent certification and external frameworks to strengthen accountability
WHAT WE’RE WORKING TOWARDS
Our focus is increasingly on reduction: improving the quality of our environmental data, identifying where emissions can be avoided or reduced at the source and establishing stronger long-term targets across our operations and supply chain.
B Corp provides another framework through which to measure this progress and hold ourselves accountable as Nagnata grows. Certification does not represent the completion of this work, but another benchmark from which we can continue to improve.
Every Nagnata garment is the result of a network of people, from our internal team to the makers, mills and suppliers who help bring each collection to life. We believe responsible business begins with the people behind it, and extends across the relationships and working conditions embedded throughout our supply chain.
As a female-founded and led business, creating a workplace where women can build meaningful careers has always been part of Nagnata's culture. Today, 80% of NAGNATA's permanent workforce is women. Throughout our B Corp certification journey, we strengthened the systems supporting our team, rewriting our employee handbook, formalising workplace policies and expanding wellness benefits.
That responsibility extends beyond our own workplace. Across our supply chain, we prioritise manufacturing partners with established social compliance systems, with the majority of our manufacturing partners undergoing BSCI audits. We value long-term supplier relationships that support continuity, quality and accountability, while continuing to improve transparency around how and where our garments are made.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
- Working with trusted supplier and manufacturing partners to deliver Nagnata collections
- Building long-term relationships where possible to support continuity, quality and accountability
- Reviewing supply-chain practices and standards as part of our broader impact journey
- Considering both social and environmental responsibility in sourcing and production decisions
- Continuing to improve visibility and accountability across sourcing and production
WHAT WE’RE WORKING TOWARDS
Supply-chain transparency is an ongoing process, and one we know requires continual attention. Our goal is to keep deepening visibility, strengthening standards and improving how we communicate this work with our community.
NAGNATA exists within a wider cultural and ecological context. Our work is shaped by the places we live and create from, the communities we move with, and a belief that business has a role to play beyond commerce alone.
Our Caring for Country philosophy reflects an ongoing commitment to reciprocity, respect and responsibility, recognising the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work and the importance of considering our place within broader systems of care.
This thinking extends into our relationships with First Nations organisations, community partners and artisan-led initiatives, taking different forms across cultural support, funding, creative collaboration and product.
In Australia, NAGNATA has completed Stage 1 — Reflect — of our Reconciliation Action Plan, establishing a framework to deepen our understanding, relationships and accountability as our reconciliation journey continues. Our ongoing partnership with The Returning, an Indigenous women-led organisation on Bundjalung Country, supports initiatives centred around culture, community, wellbeing and connection to Country. This includes supporting The Returning's Artist Residency program, creating opportunities for Indigenous artists through cultural immersion, mentorship and creative development on Bundjalung Country.
Our relationship with WomenWeave in Maheshwar, India, dates back to the early years of NAGNATA and represents a different model of collaboration. Through our work together, traditional handloom weaving and artisan knowledge become part of the product itself. The partnership supports rural artisans through craft development, fair work and access to new markets, while preserving handloom traditions through a dedicated line of artisan-made NAGNATA sarongs.
Together, these relationships reflect an approach to community built through long-term connection, reciprocity and respect for cultural knowledge and creative practice.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
- Continuing to build on our Caring for Country philosophy across brand communications and business values
- Supporting The Returning and its Indigenous Artist Residency program on Bundjalung Country
- Maintaining our long-standing artisan partnership with WomenWeave and supporting traditional handloom weaving through product collaboration
- Building relationships that support cultural knowledge, creative practice and community
- Using our platform to create greater visibility for the people, practices and stories behind these partnerships
WHAT WE’RE WORKING TOWARDS
We see this as an area of continued listening, learning and accountability. Our focus is on deepening existing relationships rather than approaching community through one-off initiatives, progressing our reconciliation commitments and continuing to explore how NAGNATA can use its resources, products and platform to create meaningful long-term value for the communities we work alongside.
