Assistant Retail Manager - Jonson Lane Jonson Lane, Byron Bay, Australia (PERMANENT PART-TIME)

As the Assistant Retail Manager (2IC), you’ll support the Retail Manager in driving the daily operations, performance, and success of our Jonson Lane store. You’ll help uphold exceptional operational standards, deliver outstanding customer experiences, and ensure strong commercial outcomes.
Importantly, you’ll take full responsibility for the store whenever the Retail Manager is not rostered on, busy with other duties, or on leave.
Our ideal candidate is a confident retail leader with a strong business mindset, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to problem-solve under pressure. You’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, with strong interpersonal and mediation skills to liaise effectively between management, team members, and customers.
Ultimately, your role is to help ensure our store operates efficiently, embodies our brand values, and keeps our customers inspired and satisfied.
Key Responsibilities:
You will assist the Retail Store Manager with a full range of operational and leadership duties, including but not limited to:
Store Operations & Performance
- Manage all aspects of the retail store and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Support daily sales processes and retail POS systems (Shopify, orders, and payments).
- Track and report on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual objectives.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with inventory management, and coordinate replenishment.
- Conduct regular store audits to ensure presentation, functionality, and compliance with company standards.
- Analyse consumer behaviour and share feedback and insights with HQ.
- Research emerging products and trends to keep the store’s merchandise current and relevant.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, motivate, and coach casual team members to perform at their best.
- Evaluate employee performance and assist in identifying hiring and training needs.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and results-oriented team culture.
- Act as the store’s leader when the Retail Manager is unavailable, setting the tone for professionalism and excellence.
Customer Engagement & Experience
- Resolve customer issues effectively to achieve win-win outcomes for the customer and the brand.
- Communicate with clients to understand and anticipate their needs.
- Implement strategies to enhance customer loyalty and attract new clients.
Financial & Operational Administration
- Monitor retail operating costs (e.g. keys, cleaning, flowers, maintenance) and ensure adherence to budgets.
- Support in planning and executing sales initiatives and in-store events.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in high-end fashion retail, ideally in a supervisory or management role.
- Proficiency in Shopify and inventory management systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A natural talent for motivating, coaching, and developing teams.
- Exceptional customer service and sales ability.
- High level of flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-developed problem-solving and organisational skills.
- A keen interest in fashion, design and conscious retail practices.
Qualifications/Experience
- 2 + years working in a similar role
