The Nagnata journey began working with artisan communities throughout India in 2015 on fair trade projects and bespoke upcycled textiles. It was during this time that the foundations of the brand were formed. Exploring relationships between the artisanal and the contemporary, the Nagnata designers were developing the technical-knitwear movement fabrications synonymous with the brand today. The Movement 001 debut collection launched in 2017.
Nagnata were awarded finalists in the Lane Crawford Creative Callout competition in Sydney 2018, winning an exclusive 1 year contract with the leading Asian department store throughout Hong Kong and China.
In 2019 Nagnata were invited to present looks to Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, at the National Gallery Of Victoria in Melbourne for the Vogue Emerging Designer Showcase.
Vogue Australia named Nagnata Generation Next designers as part of the ‘Meet Our Future’ feature in the February Issue 2019 Vogue Australia.

In 2019 Net-A-Porter launched NET SUSTAIN, a curated platform highlighting consciously crafted designs. Nagnata was invited to be a part of the exclusive selection of brands. Nagnata undertook a sustainability auditing process before being accepted onto the program in June 2019 and continue to contribute to the SUSTAIN platform.
Vogue announced Nagnata winner of the prestigious Emerging Fashion Designer Award 2020 by Westpac Private Bank and the Australian Fashion Council.
That same year Nagnata were awarded the VAMFF Honourable Mention Award for Sustainability at the National Designer Awards presented by David Jones. The brand also received a double nomination for IMG Australian Fashion Laureate awards in the Best Emerging Designer and Sustainable Innovation Emerging Designer categories.
Nagnata opened its first flagship retail store in Byron Bay, Australia in 2019. Expanding globally in 2020, the brand opened a design studio in Los Angeles, USA.
