NAGNATA founder Laura May spoke with Shaughnessy in New York to get to know more about the brands new NAGNATA GIRL.
LAURA MAY: Shaughnessy, we first connected on instagram a few years ago, when you reached out to ask about some artisan work I was doing in India. We bonded over our passion for travel and humanitarian work. I knew from then I wanted to work with you, and we've been following each others journey from afar. Apart from building your successful modelling career, what have you been working on?
SHAUGHNESSY: I'm currently interning for this app called deed app. It's a volunteering based application and I'm doing photography and a social media push for them. It's helping tons of people. I'm also creating art in my spare time. It's a positive release of ideas that run through my mind.
LAURA MAY: You grew up in Orlando, Florida and now live in Brooklyn, New York. What was your childhood like?
SHAUGHNESSY: My background has definitely been a way in which has shaped me overall. I was a very active in sports, acting and arts and missionary work growing up. Which has helped me take into account the things I enjoy most moving forward in my life. I'm currently now living in NYC in Brookly and I love it. It's a laid back and creative space to be around.
LAURA MAY: You debuted with GUCCI in 2016, how did that opportunity come about and how did it shape your career?
SHAUGHNESSY: The opportunity with GUCCI hit when my agent in Milan called me and told me I booked the show, and it helped working with an incredible brand and Pat McGrath makeup artist. It was a great experience.
LAURA MAY: How has the modelling industry changed or your experience within it shifted over the years ? Do you experience a more positive attitude and acceptance around around body image and size, racial and gender inclusivity from inside the industry ?
SHAUGHNESSY: I believe the years working in the industry is always evolving every season, new ideas, new talent, constant change and possibility. More pros than cons and Im always up for a good challenge every single changing season.
LAURA MAY: What movement based practices do you do to stay feeling healthy and balanced ?
SHAUGHNESSY: I do sprinting and hot yoga to keep my flexibility. Boxing has become a passion for self defence and confidence. I also try and keep a positive mindset.
LAURA MAY: What books have you read recently and would recommended ?
SHAUGHNESSY: Always author Robert Greene.
